Health & Social Care Moray (HSCM) is a proud supporter of Adoption Week Scotland 2023 which begins today (Monday 20 November) and is encouraging people to consider adoption to help local children find their forever family.

At any one time there are several children of all ages and backgrounds waiting to be adopted in Moray.

Simon Bokor-Ingram, Chief Officer, hopes the annual campaign will encourage more people to choose adoption as a way to grow their family.ย

He said: โ€œFinding the right adoptive family for children improves their life chances and we want every child to be in a loving, stable home. This Adoption Week Scotland, weโ€™re urging people who may have considered adoption in the past to make this the time they follow through and take the next step by finding out more about whatโ€™s involved.ย

โ€œTo be considered as an adopter you need to be able to offer a safe, nurturing home and a sense of belonging. It doesnโ€™t matter if youโ€™re on your own, married or in a civil partnership, or whether you have children or not. You might own your own home or be a tenant. You could be working or not in employment. You do, however, need to be over 21, have a bedroom a child can make their own and be willing to work closely with social workers and other professionals.

ย โ€œOur dedicated Adoption Team works with people throughout the process to make sure they are supported from the earliest stages to welcoming a child into their home and beyond.โ€ย

Dennis Robertson, Chair of the Moray Integration Joint Board (IJB) which governs the work of HSCM, said: โ€œPeople from every background could draw on their life experiences to make amazing adoptive parents who provide a loving, stable home for a child or siblings who need a forever home.ย

โ€œMoray needs more people to come forward to adopt and I would urge anyone considering if this might be right for them to get in touch with our Adoption Team to learn more about the support available to help them on this incredible journey.โ€ย

The next introduction to adoption training starts in early 2024. To chat and learn more, contact the Adoption Team on 01343 563568 or email adoption.letterbox@moray.gov.uk.ย
