Patients are invited to take part in a formal consultation on the future of the Burghead and Hopeman branch surgeries.
The consultation is being carried out by Health & Social Care Moray. This is the partnership of Moray Council and NHS Grampian responsible for adult social care and community health care services, including the services provided under contract by GP practices.
Health & Social Care Moray is consulting on the proposed permanent closure of the branch surgeries at Burghead and Hopeman.
The branch surgeries temporarily closed in March 2020. All patients of Moray Coast Medical Practice currently have in-person appointments at the Lossiemouth medical centre, as well as telephone, online and video consultations.
Patients on the housebound register and those who are too ill to attend Lossiemouth medical centre are visited at home.
These arrangements will continue should the branch surgeries not reopen.
Transport to Lossiemouth medical centre remains an issue for patients living in and around Burghead and Hopeman. To reduce the impact, a dial-a-bus service is available Monday to Friday between 10am and 2.30pm. Journeys must be booked a day ahead by calling the booking line on 0300 1234565 between 8.45am and 5pm. Moray Coast Medical Practice can book the service for on the day appointments.
The branch surgeries have been a feature of Burghead and Hopeman for many years and are much valued by local residents. Their permanent closure would have an ongoing impact on patients.
It is important everyone has the opportunity to comment on the proposal before any decision is taken by the Moray Integration Joint Board which is the governing body of Health & Social Care Moray.
A formal consultation on the proposed permanent closure of the Burghead and Hopeman branch surgeries will begin on 1 September 2022. The consultation will run for 90 days and will end on 16 December 2022.
