Staff working in Moray’s Community Support Service have been praised for the significant progress made following a Care Inspectorate inspection.

A report presented to the Moray Integration Joint Board’s Audit, Performance and Risk Committee today (24 September) highlighted the substantial progress made by the service.

The progress was also reflected in a follow-up Care Inspectorate inspection in June, when the service was rated good across all four areas assessed – wellbeing, leadership, staff team, and care and support planning. This compared with the previous inspection in March, when leadership, staffing and care planning were rated adequate.

The Community Support Service is managed by Moray Health & Social Care Partnership. It provides care at home and housing support to adults with learning disabilities and/or mental health conditions across Moray, supporting people to live in their own homes as independently as possible and participate in their communities.

Improvements to care planning, staffing, quality assurance, communication and training have strengthened the service and contributed to improved outcomes for supported people and greater assurance, the committee heard. While a number of improvement actions remain underway, strong systems of oversight are in place to ensure these are monitored and completed.

Members commended staff for the hard work behind the improvements and recognised the commitment shown by the team in delivering such significant progress.

Councillor Scott Lawrence, Chair of the committee, said: “The progress achieved by the Community Support Service is a real credit to everyone involved, and staff should be very proud of how far the service has come.

“I would particularly like to recognise the leadership of the Registered Manager, who has worked incredibly hard to drive this improvement programme forward, alongside the wider management team and staff. The commitment, determination and hard work shown by everyone has been outstanding.

“There is still work to do, but the progress made so far is significant and provides a strong foundation for continuing to improve the service for the people we support.”
