On Saturday 30 August 2025, people in Moray will unite for Recovery Together ย – a free community event marking International Overdose Awareness Day with a celebration of hope, connection and reflection.
Running from 11am to 3pm at the Lossiemouth Indoor Sport & Social Club, the event will bring people together to remember those lost to substance use, support those still affected, and celebrate the strength and resilience found in recovery journeys.
One of the most important parts of the day will be the Rose Remembrance Walk โ an opportunity to honour, without stigma, people who have died from overdose, and to stand together with those who have lost a loved one.
Starting from the club premises on Queenโs Lane at noon, the walk will follow a short route to the East Beach Bridge for a shared moment of reflection, healing, and solidarity.
Recovery Together is organised by Moray Alcohol and Drug Partnership (MADP). MADP works with local services and organisations to prevent and reduce alcohol and drug harms, tackle stigma, challenge misconceptions about drugs, alcohol and mental health issues which can make it more difficult for people to seek help, and promote a community where recovery is understood and supported.
The day will feature information stalls from local support services, refreshments, and activities for all ages. There will be opportunities to share and celebrate lived and living experience and to highlight recovery support available in Moray.
Ainya Taylor, Moray Community Justice Coordinator, said: โThis day is about coming together to support one another, to remember, and to celebrate the strength found in recovery.
โEveryone is welcome – whether youโve been affected by substance use directly or indirectly or simply want to show your support.โ
Justin Jansen, Moray Alcohol & Drug Partnership Coordinator, added: โIn Moray, we know that recovery happens when people feel seen, heard, and supported. This day will challenge stigma, spark conversations, and show that change is possible when we work together.
โRecovery Together is about more than just an event โ itโs a space where hope, connection, and community can grow. It offers a moment to remember those weโve lost, stand alongside those still affected, and celebrate the strength and resilience of people and families in recovery.โ
Everyone is welcome to drop in at any time during the day โ whether youโve been personally affected, want to learn more, or simply stand alongside others in hope and solidarity. Delicious food will be prepared by Soul Food Connections and transport support will be available.
To help MADP finalise arrangements, it would be appreciated if people could register in advance for a free place via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/recovery-together-moray-tickets-1543757583489.
International Overdose Awareness Day โ held on 31 August each year and recognised by the silver ribbon and the colour purple โ began in 2001 and has grown into a global campaign of reflection, education, and action.
Overdose is preventable, and every life lost is one too many. By talking openly, sharing knowledge, and challenging stigma, we can all play a part in saving lives.
MADP encourages everyone to:
- Learn the signs of an overdose and act quickly โ it could save a life.
- Carry naloxone if you can โ this life-saving medication can reverse an opioid overdose.
- Check in with friends, family, and neighbours โ connection reduces risk.
- Know local support options โ help is available, and no one should face this alone.
